It’s an original comic series created by Stephane Metayer about four individuals from different walks of life that are connected. It’s heavily inspired by hip-hop and anime, the words Tephlon Funk!® means to be strong and stand out. We really wanted to make an authentic and unique story about New York City in the mid ’90s. A bunch of our readers have always wished to see something like this and we believe that it can one day turn into a franchise.

A big love letter to all the five boroughs. The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and yes, Staten Island. This is more than just a series, it’s a cultural movement. HOW THE STORY GOES…

Stephane originally came up with the concept way back in 2004 while he was still in high school. It was a doodle of a young girl with cornrows, this ended up being the early design for Inez. Not long after graduating, he started putting together a story for her and eventually came up with the background for Gabriel, a sketch of a kid wearing a doo-rag.

Unfortunately, thinking of a title for this story was difficult and took almost a year. But eventually he got inspired by Biggie’s Machine Gun Funk. The idea and design for Cameron was influenced from watching a lot of cop dramas in the mid ’90s. Lastly, the approach and thought process behind Giselle came from his friend’s Afro-Latino culture.

TEPHLON FUNK AT NYCC 2015
